A burger is a whole lot more than a deliciously juicy patty on a bun. One of the best parts about making a burger is combining that solid foundation with toppings and condiments (such as bacon, fronions, and cheese sauce) to unlock enormous flavor. The sky really is the limit!
But my personal favorite is this Mushroom Swiss Burger. Sautéed onions and mushrooms is a classic combination that can never go wrong. Adding on, this mushroom and Swiss burger has a hefty beef patty with melted Swiss cheese on a buttery brioche bun. When loaded with those savory mushrooms and sweet browned onions, it can be hard to have just one.
The key in making the mushroom and onion topping in this recipe is cooking on high heat. This ensures the mushrooms and onions are not only cooked, but browned. Browned mushrooms and onions will have much more intense sweet and savory flavor than if they were simply cooked through.
This restaurant-quality Mushroom Swiss Burger can be easily made at home in just 30 minutes, making it a great option for a weeknight dinner—even on the busiest of nights. Scroll down to see how you can make this amazing burger in your own kitchen!

Ingredients

- 2.5 lbs Ground beef
- 1 Egg
- 3 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Pepper
- 6 slices Swiss cheese
- 16 oz Sliced mushroom
- 2 Onion
- 2 Tbsp Butter
- 2 cloves Garlic
- 6 Brioche burger buns
Instructions

The first step in making the Mushroom Swiss Burger is to make the beef patties. Mix ground beef, egg, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper in a large mixing bowl. Once the ingredients are mixed, form patties that are about 4 inches in diameter and 3/4 inch thick.
Preheat the grill to 375–400 ºF and grill the burger patties for 10 minutes on medium heat. Flip the patties and cook for 5 additional minutes.

Before removing the patties, put one slice of Swiss cheese on each patty and let the cheese melt for 1 minute. At the same time, toast the burger buns on the grill for 1 minute. Toasting the buns is essential to ensure the buns will maintain their shape, even with a loaded burger like this one. Remove the burger patties and buns from the heat.
While the burgers are cooking on the grill, sauté the mushrooms and onions. Slice the onions into 1/4 inch thick slices and mince the garlic. Put the minced garlic and butter in a large pan and cook on medium heat for 1 minute. Then, add the sliced onions and cook for 5 minutes until the onions start to turn translucent. Add sliced mushrooms, 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper to the onions. Turn the heat up to high and cook for 10 minutes until the onions and the mushrooms are browned.

Once all the burgers are cooked and the browned mushroom-onion topping is ready, it’s time to assemble the burgers! Place the beef patties with melted Swiss cheese on the bottom bun. Then, add on 1/2 cup of mushroom-onion topping. Place the top bun and the burger is done.

Enjoy the juicy, savory Mushroom Swiss Burgers with various sides, such as french fries, sweet potato fries, pickles, or coleslaw.
